Healthcare commemorates World No Tobacco Day at institutes in Orihuela to raise awareness among adolescents about tobacco use
The councilman of Health, Noelia Grao, has reported that in the coming days, on the occasion of the celebration of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the Community Prevention Unit in Addictive Behavior Orihuela (UPCCA) will install an information table in different institutes in the municipality to raise awareness about the problems of using tobacco. “In 2019 this commemoration focuses on lung health and UPCCA staff will inform and advise students on the problems associated with smoking,” said the mayor.
This information table will be on Wednesday 22 May at IES Playa Flamenca, Monday 27 at IES El Palmeral, Wednesday 29 at IES Tháder and Thursday 30 at IES Gabriel Miró. In addition, in all these centers will be taught theoretical and practical workshops throughout the day for various groups, which is expected to reach more than 500 students.
From the UPCCA remember that according to the Survey on Drug Use in Secondary Education in Spain (ESTUDES) 2017, 34.7% of students between 14 and 18 years has used tobacco in the last year, while 8.8% do so daily. In fact, Spain already has as many smokers as before the enactment of the 2005 anti-smoking law and its tightening in 2010, which led to a significant reduction in the number of smokers.
