Orihuela Costa is a hamlet in the municipality of Orihuela. It is located in the province of Alicante.
40.48 % of the Orihuela population (Orihuela name) according to the 2009 census was of foreign nationality. Of the non-nationals, 76.46% are of European origin: thus, in the municipality of Orihuela reside 17 121 British and 9545 citizens of other European countries; the non-Spanish population of European countries is concentrated mainly in the Dehesa de Campoamor.
This district has a total of 20,005 inhabitants in 2018. This area has many population nuclei with few inhabitants each, sometimes even several tens.
Orihuela coast has 16 km of coastline with 11 coves and beaches of fine golden sand that are bathed by the warm Mediterranean.
Thanks to its geographical situation and its impressive climatic conditions, Orihuela Costa is the best destination to enjoy its beaches and water sports all year round.
The beaches of Orihuela Costa are recognized and accredited by the official certifications of bodies and institutions that monitor and control the quality criteria.
This 2018 Orihuela Costa has broken the record with 11 blue flag beaches: Punta Prima, Cala Bosque, La Caleta, Cala Capitán, Aguamarina, Campoamor, Barranco Rubio, Cala Estaca, Cala Mosca, Cala Cerrada and Mil Palmeras.
The Blue Flag is an annual award and an environmental quality certification system developed by FEE-Foundation Foro Environmental Education, represented in Spain by ADEAC, which since 1987 has promoted and rewarded participation in voluntary environmental initiatives by municipal authorities, the local population and visitors and agents of the tourism sector.
Orihuela Costa also leads the way in achieving:
Q” certifications for Tourist Quality, SICTED distinctions, Banderas Qualitur, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
All this positions Orihuela as a quality tourist destination, with the highest number of distinctions per kilometre of coastline in Spain.
